At United Medical Imaging Healthcare (UMIH), we put our patients at the center of everything we do. Every UMIH center is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and staffed by fellowship-trained radiologists covering musculoskeletal (MSK), breast, and neuroradiology subspecialties.

Fast, patient-first scheduling

Same-day and walk-in appointments are available at most locations (unless the study requires prior authorization or extensive prep). Referring physicians typically receive our specialty diagnostic reports within 24–48 hours of the exam.

About Breast Biopsy

When a mammogram, ultrasound, or MRI identifies an area that needs further evaluation, an image-guided biopsy provides the definitive diagnosis. UMIH’s breast radiologists perform stereotactic, ultrasound-guided, and MRI-guided biopsies using minimally invasive needle techniques with local anesthesia — no general anesthesia and no surgical incision.

Does a breast biopsy hurt?

Local anesthesia numbs the area. Most patients feel pressure but not pain during the procedure. Mild bruising and soreness for a few days afterward is typical.

When will I get my biopsy results?

Pathology results typically return within 1–3 business days. Your UMIH radiologist and your referring physician will discuss the results with you.

Will I have a scar?

The needle used leaves only a small nick that is closed with a bandage, not stitches. Scarring is minimal.
