Providing Highly Advanced Diagnostic Imaging Services

At United Medical Imaging Healthcare (UMIH), we put our patients at the center of everything we do. Over the past two decades we have built a comprehensive outpatient radiology network across Los Angeles and Orange counties, serving more than 300,000 patients each year through 32 full-service facilities.

Every UMIH center is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and staffed by fellowship-trained radiologists covering musculoskeletal (MSK), breast, and neuroradiology subspecialties.

What we offer

  • 3T and 1.5T high-field MRI, wide-bore MRI, and open MRI for claustrophobic or larger patients
  • 128-slice CT and CT angiography (CTA)
  • PET/CT for oncology staging, restaging, and treatment response
  • 3D digital mammography, breast ultrasound, and image-guided breast biopsy
  • Diagnostic ultrasound, DEXA bone density, fluoroscopy, and digital X-ray
  • Nuclear medicine including bone scan, HIDA, MAG3 renal, and cardiac perfusion

Fast, patient-first scheduling

Same-day and walk-in appointments are available at most locations (unless the study requires prior authorization or extensive prep). Referring physicians typically receive our specialty diagnostic reports within 24–48 hours of the exam.

Extended hours are available at select locations (Monday–Friday 7:30 am to 7:00 pm, and Saturdays on request). For scheduling assistance call (310) 943-8400 or request an appointment through our patient portal.

3T MRI in Fountain Valley, CA

3T MRI is a high-field MRI scanner operating at 3.0 Tesla, delivering roughly twice the signal of a standard 1.5T system for sharper images and shorter scan times — especially valuable for the brain, spine, and musculoskeletal imaging. UMIH offers 3T MRI at 1 center in Fountain Valley.

Where can I get 3T MRI in Fountain Valley?

There is 1 UMIH imaging center offering 3T MRI in Fountain Valley, California. All UMIH centers are accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and staffed by fellowship-trained radiologists.

About 3T MRI

A 3 Tesla (3T) MRI produces significantly higher signal-to-noise than 1.5T systems, which translates into finer anatomic detail, thinner slices, and often shorter overall exam time. UMIH’s 3T scanners support advanced neuro sequences (DTI, SWI, spectroscopy) and, at select locations, NeuroQuant volumetric brain analysis for dementia, TBI, and multiple-sclerosis follow-up. 3T is the preferred field strength for detailed brain, prostate, breast, and cartilage imaging.

When 3T MRI is used

  • Detailed brain imaging (MS lesions, epilepsy, tumors, dementia workup)
  • Traumatic brain injury (TBI) with DTI / SWI sequences
  • Prostate MRI (PI-RADS)
  • Small-joint and cartilage evaluation (wrist, ankle, TMJ)
  • High-resolution spine imaging

Preparation: Same as standard MRI. If contrast is required, current creatinine / eGFR labs may be requested. Metal-object screening is more sensitive at 3T — arrive early to complete the safety questionnaire.

Typical duration: Typical 3T MRI exams take 20 to 40 minutes.

Radiation: No ionizing radiation.

Frequently asked questions about 3T MRI

What is the advantage of a 3T MRI over 1.5T?

3T systems have approximately double the magnetic field strength of 1.5T, producing higher-resolution images, better small-structure detail, and often faster scan times — particularly beneficial for brain, prostate, breast, and joint imaging.

Is a 3T MRI safe?

Yes. 3T MRI is FDA-approved and involves no ionizing radiation. As with any MRI, patients with pacemakers, cochlear implants, or certain metal implants require pre-screening.

What is NeuroQuant?

NeuroQuant is FDA-cleared software that measures the volume of specific brain regions from an MRI. It is used to help evaluate memory disorders, traumatic brain injury, and multiple sclerosis.
